Mesogen composed of molecules consisting of two parts of contrasting character that are hydrophilic and hydrophobic or lipophobic and lipophilic. Note 1: Examples of amphiphilic mesogens are soaps, detergents and some block copolymers. Note 2: Under suitable conditions of temperature and concentration, the similar parts of amphiphilic molecules cluster together to form aggregates or micelles. |
