Batch extraction in which the extraction phase attains a constant composition before phase separation.
Note 1: If the analytes are initially present as a solution in an immiscible liquid phase the process is
synonymous with liquid–liquid extraction.
Note 2: If the sample is a solid that is partially soluble in the extraction phase the term leaching may be
a more appropriate term.
