ბიოგრაფია

1939 წელს დაამთავრა კემბრიჯის უნივერსიტეტი. 1940 წლიდან მუშაობს ამავე უნივერსიტეტში. 1943 წელს დაიცვა დოქტორის ხარისხი.

1951 წლიდან არის მედიცინის კვლევითი საბჭოს წევრი და ამავე საბჭოს მოლეკულური ბიოლოგიის ლაბორატორიის ხელმძღვანელი.

მისი ძირითადი ნაშრომები ეძღვნება ცილებისა და ნუკლეინის მჟავების ქიმიას. აღსანიშნავია, რომ 1945 წლიდან ის შეისწავლიდა ინსულინს. მის მიერ იქნა შემუშავებული პეპტიდური ამინოჯგუფების იდენტიფიკაციის დინიტრო–ამინობენზოლური მეთოდი–სწორედ ამ მეთოდის დახმარებით იქნა შესაძლებელი ინსულინის ბუნების, მასში ამინოჯგუფების თანმიმდევრობისა და საბოლოოდ მისის სტრუქტურის დადგენა(1944–1954). სენგერმა დაადგინა რომ ინსულინის ბრუტო ფორმულაა C337N65O75S6 (მარტო ბრუტო ფორმულაც კი შთამბეჭდავია, დამეთანხმებით). სამი სულფიდური „ხიდი“ შედგება ორი ჯაჭვისაგან: ჯაჭვი A-შემდგარი 21 ამინომჟავური ნაშთისაგან და ჯაჭვი B-შემდგარი 30 ამინომჟავური ნაშთისაგან. ამ სამუშაოზე დაყრდნობით იქნა შექმნილი სინთეზური ინსულინი.

ფ. სენგერის მიერ 1965 წელს მოწოდებულ იქნა რნმ–ისა და დნმ–ის ფოსფორ 32Р–ით მარკირების მეთოდი, რამაც ხელი შეუწყო აღნიშნული ბიომოლეკულების სტრუქტურულ კვლევას და ამასთან უზრუნველყო კვლევისათვის გამოყენებული ყოფილიყო მცირე ოდენობით საკვლები ობიექტი – 10−6გ. მის მიერ იქნა დადგენილი 5S რნმ–ის და FX 174 ფაგის დნმ–ის სტრუქტურა. მის მიერ შემუშავებულ იქნა დნმ–ის პირველადი სტრუქტურის კვლევის მეთოდიც.

მიღებული აქვს: დიდი ბრიტანეთის დამსახურების ორდენი(Order of Merit), ღირსების კავალერის ორდენი (Order of the Companions of Honour) და ასევე არის ბრიტანეთის იმპერიის ორდენის კომანდორი (The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire). არის ლონდონის სამეფო საზოგადოების წევრი(1954), მთელი რიგი მეცნიერებათა აკადემიებისა და სამეცნიერო საზოგადეოებების წევრი. ასევე ლონდონის სამეფო საზოგადოების (1969) მედალის, ფუნდამენტური სამედიცინო კვლევებისათვის ალბერტ ლასკერის პრემიის (1977) და რა თქმა უნდა ორჯერ (1958, 1980) ნობელის პრემიის ლაურეატი.
